So I bought powdered low fire clear gloss (dipping). I wanted to make it brushable so I added CMC gum as recommended. It went a nice consistency but now it has settled badly. Its very watery and too thin now to dip. How can I bring it back, or can I? More CMC? A flocculant?
Clear glaze issues
Is this a dry base that you add only water to? Do you have more? Add in more of the mix sparingly until the consistency is good.
No I don't have any more. Someone said add some Epsom salts (deflocculant) so I'm going to try that
You may be able to solve the problem by letting the glaze solution settle so the water evaporates to the top. Then, skim the water off the top. If you have too much water, Epsom salt will make it worse.
To clarify, Epsom salt is a flocculant (not a deflocculant). Here is an excellent article that explains what I am trying to say much better. https://suemcleodceramics.com/how-to-make-a-saturated-epsom-salt-solution-to-flocculate-your-glazes/#:~:text=When%20you%20add%20Epsom%20Salts,the%20edges%20are%20all%20positive.
Thanks Cyndi, Looks like I needed that clarification flocculate schmoculate :)
