The mushroom mugs we made based on the Mushroom Planter class are finally done! I tried a variety of clays and glazes and really like them all but the Autumn Purple on the CCSS may be my favorite!
The clays used here are Tuckers Smooth Spec and Tuckers CCSS both fired to cone 5 on medium speed with an 18 minute hold.
The glazes used were Spectrum Pearl White, Sunrise and Autumn Purple. I applied 2 coats of each to the outside and inside avoiding the mushrooms. If any glaze got on the mushrooms I wiped it away.
All the the mushroom stems and inside the caps have 1 coat of Mayco speckled buff engobe. The stems have 1 coat of colors for earth burnt sienna color concentrates and no glaze. The mushroom caps have 2 coats of Hot Tamale Stroke and Coat and dots of Cotton Tail Stroke and Coat.
I applied one coat of Spectrum Hot Running Chowder to the rim and top 1/3 of the handle.
The bottoms have 1 coat of speedball black underglaze applied in a mushroom shape when the mug was leather hard then I carved my signature with a Diamond Core Tools L3 Sgraffito Stylus tool.
